After the results of the November, 2016 United States' presidential election, the artists were inspired to reach out and connect to fellow humans in a positive manner. On a chilly winter day, they created a temporary space for random strangers to interact while having a cup of tea. Once a passerby agreed to drink some (free) tea, the directive was to think of a one word intention. After the participants drank their tea, they wrote their intention on the tea cup. Then the artists placed soil and flower seeds in the tea cup. Each person left with someone else's tea cup and therefore a strangers intention to nurture along with the seed. Additionally, remote participation via Facebook, allowed for people worldwide to drink some tea and share their intentions. These intentions were also written on tea cups and were taken by those present at the Berlin event. www.lilykelting.com The artists would like to thank the lovely folks at Bar Vereinzimmer/ Lo Spazio for generously donating tea! www.facebook.com/Café-Bar-Vereinszimmer-Lo-Spazio-Kreuzberg-126149347571984/ |
“Renewal for Peace” 2015
installation at the Arkenberge project in Berlin, Germany.
Singing Sculpture made of upcycled bamboo and
plastic bags. approx. 5m x 35m
Arkenberge is a former building material depository.
Rubble and even remnants of the Berlin Wall now make the two highest peaks in the city of Berlin.
The installation "Renewal for Peace" was made up of assorted plastic collected by the artist from fellow immigrants to the city. Suggestive of Buddhist prayer flags, the sculpture waved through the wind, intimating new chances for reinvention. The piece stood during a festival to mark the beginning of a new development project on the site, which will include ecologically-minded educational and recreational opportunities. After the event, the plastic was upcycled yet again into a forthcoming new work.
